Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is 3D/4D ultrasound imaging safe?Ultrasound has been used for over 40 years. There is no increase in sound waves used in 3D/4D imaging over 2D imaging. Additionally, there is no radiation involved when using sonography. Extensive studies over the years have found that ultrasound technology has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now a typical occurrence throughout the United States. At Sweet Pea 3D/4D Ultrasound, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our clients and their babies, and all of our sonographers are highly trained and certified in obstetric ultrasound imaging.

What are the benefits of 3D/4D ultrasounds? Our 3D/4D ultrasounds in Metairie offer an incredible way to connect with your baby before birth. Unlike traditional 2D imaging, which provides a flat, black-and-white image, 3D ultrasounds deliver detailed, lifelike images of your baby's features, such as their face or tiny hands. 4D ultrasounds take this a step further by adding real-time motion, allowing you to watch your baby yawn, stretch, or smile. These unique bonding experiences create cherished memories and can also be a comforting way to share the excitement with family and friends.

What is the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D, and 5D ultrasounds?2D, 3D, 4D, and 5D ultrasounds each provide a unique glimpse at your baby, but they differ in the level of detail and perspective they provide: 2D Ultrasounds: The standard black-and-white images used in medical diagnostics to monitor growth and development. 3D Ultrasounds: These capture still, three-dimensional images, giving you a detailed look at your baby’s facial features. 4D Ultrasounds: Adding motion, 4D lets you view your baby’s real-time movements, like wiggles or stretches. 5D Ultrasounds: Offering photorealistic images, 5D technology enhances lighting and depth for a more lifelike view. Our ultrasound studio in New Orleans, LA, brings you the latest in prenatal imaging to create lasting memories with your baby.

When is the best time to schedule a 3D/4D ultrasound? The timing of your ultrasound depends on what you’d like to see. Early in pregnancy, you’ll catch glimpses of tiny, delicate body parts, with your baby often moving actively. Mid-pregnancy offers a chance to see your baby growing and developing, with facial features becoming more defined. In later stages, visualizing the baby’s face can be more challenging. For the clearest facial images, we recommend scheduling your session between 27 and 32 weeks. We offer 2D/3D/4D/5D imaging with all ultrasounds except the mini scan. Our sonographer is medically trained and certified by the ARDMS. Please note: Our sessions do not replace your doctor's regular prenatal care. Please ensure you have already undergone your first pregnancy ultrasound to confirm your due date, check for anomalies, and assess your baby's development before scheduling an elective scan with us.

Should I book the 30-minute Signature scan or the 45-minute Deluxe scan?During pregnancy, babies can settle into various positions, sometimes covering their faces with their hands or feet. They may also rest against the placenta or uterine wall, which can make capturing clear images more difficult. To navigate these challenges, we recommend opting for the 45-minute scan for the best chance at capturing those special moments. However, the final choice is entirely up to you. Ultrasound scans are most effective when there is plenty of amniotic fluid around the baby. Please stay well-hydrated throughout your pregnancy.
